still life paintings come alive for oh marie

oh marie - natural history / melissa milis photography / inspire stylingOh my, on shoot days like last Tuesday I don't even know where to begin with counting my blessings! First of all, I headed towards an old toothpaste factory (our gorgeous shoot location) with a sea of flowers, vintage props and lots of botanical books and prints. Second, I got to work with one of my photo heroes, Melissa Milis, again. Beautiful Bertina was our model, we had an indoor shoot on a rainy day, talked about weddings during lunch and well.. the biggest blessing of all: we got these amazing results!

For the editorial shoot of Oh Marie's new theme - Natural History - I felt inspired after seeing some still life paintings by Rachel Ruysch. That was what I wanted to do, bring those paintings to our century! In a new way, a more light and poetic way. I found the perfect backdrop in de Nieuwe Stad, a cool industrial place in Amersfoort. Exposed brick walls, cement floors and great light! Below some backstage pictures Melissa made during our shoot day. Amazing space right? They actually had to strip down the entire place, because those pretty bricks were covered up with boring white walls. Hard work pays off! oh marie - natural history / melissa milis photography / inspire stylingoh marie - natural history / melissa milis photography / inspire stylingoh marie - natural history / melissa milis photography / inspire stylingoh marie - natural history / melissa milis photography / inspire styling This is me in my element.. surrounded by a sea of flowers. Give me shoots like this every day! If I ever get tired of being a stylist, I will definitely open a flower shop. Or maybe I'll do both, since it will take a looooooong time before I get sick of this ;) Hello, just look at these photos! I would have guessed this shoot would be good. But our little golden team did even better than I expected! I can't stop looking at them ♥ oh marie - natural history / melissa milis photography / inspire stylingoh marie - natural history / melissa milis photography / inspire stylingoh marie - natural history / melissa milis photography / inspire stylingoh marie - natural history / melissa milis photography / inspire stylingoh marie - natural history / melissa milis photography / inspire styling Don't be sad, there is more! good food and picture perfect Amersfoort

It has been too long! The downside of being partner of an amazing blog like Oh Marie! is my own blog feels a little left out. But here I am, I didn't forget about you! :)

Life lately has been quite hectic, but filled with wedding preparations, shoots, some 'mweh' days (yes, like everybody else, don't believe everything you see on social media) and lots of good food and sweet people. I told you before, we eat vegetarian most of the time and we have been cooking more special things lately. Like the dinner above, my sister and brother-in-law came over and I made them very very happy with a Italian style tabletop and different veggie dishes. These sweet potato fries, the avocado spread and cauliflower&chickpea salad were soooo good! And everybody even liked my last-minute-I-need-another-dip tomato&red onion salsa. Yay!

And yes, my sweet husband knocked over his glass of red wine over that crisp white linen cloth. But that was bound to happen. I should have sticked to white wine :) *note to self: buy new linen at the market*Amersfoort - @annevanmidden on Instagram This month my picture perfect hometown Amersfoort was the place to be, I have had meeting after meeting here. Super easy and always a winner. I spend some time at this cool new coffee place called Livingstone, strolled through the cute little streets with friends and enjoyed the sunny weather (as long as it lasted, go away rain!).

Can I say I just LOVE meeting other creatives? I do! Especially if they are illustrators I have admired for a few years and they turn out to be so sweet and a perfect match, friend-wise. And I love talking to other stylists that make me look at things differently. Or planning shoots with photographers while showing cat pictures to each other. Oh well, you get the point. When you work alone it can be so refreshing to meet up and share ideas, thoughts and new perspectives. And cat photos, you always need cat photos. So here you go, one irritated Nalu cutiepie! You're welcome. anne-nalu1 The next couple of weeks are wedding weeks, but I have some really interesting shoots planned too. I will try to share pictures soon! But no promises, you might remind me of it and make me feel bad! ;)

Until then: ENJOY! ♥ Anne

loveshoot Amersfoort: fries in a postcard town

loveshoot in Amersfoort - Anne+Stefan - photo by OAK&FIR - Inspire Styling blogThis year flew by so fast! On April 2nd 2014 my (then) fiancé and I walked out with the sun on our heads to do a loveshoot in our beloved Amersfoort with sweet Danique from OAK & FIR. Yesterday, April 2nd 2015, there was hail, storm and rain all morning. Mweh.

I realized I never shared this loveshoot, because I used it for our wedding giveaways and I didn't want to give it all away (how ironic). But I really want to share these photos with you, I am so proud and so happy when I look at them. We are 100% Anne&Stefan, not trained models or anything. I hate my hunchback posture in some photos, Stefan hates that he has his hand in his pocket on almost every shot, but we look beautiful, happy and in love so none of that matters!

And what is a better backdrop for a couple in love than the pretty postcard town centre of Amersfoort? The place I grew up, the place we met, where we live together and spend our free time. I can not fall OUT of love with this city, so we will probably be here for a while. (Uhm, until we find a countryhouse with a big garden ;)) We ate fries & icecream, had smoothies & coffee and had the best time with each other and with Danique. We just walked around, showed her all our favorite places and she captured us just the way we are. The results: A gorgeous loveshoot and a really cool 'tour de Amersfoort' booklet (design&illustrations by yours truly) for our wedding guests!

Danique did share some pictures last year, so you might regconize them from her website. Oh well, I have seen them a hunderd times and still love them. So sit back, prepare for a HUGE pile of happy couple pictures and enjoy!loveshoot in Amersfoort - Anne+Stefan - photo by OAK&FIR - Inspire Styling blog loveshoot in Amersfoort - Anne+Stefan - photo by OAK&FIR - Inspire Styling blogloveshoot in Amersfoort - Anne+Stefan - photo by OAK&FIR - Inspire Styling blogloveshoot in Amersfoort - Anne+Stefan - photo by OAK&FIR - Inspire Styling blog loveshoot in Amersfoort - Anne+Stefan - photo by OAK&FIR - Inspire Styling blogloveshoot in Amersfoort - Anne+Stefan - photo by OAK&FIR - Inspire Styling blogloveshoot in Amersfoort - Anne+Stefan - photo by OAK&FIR - Inspire Styling blogloveshoot in Amersfoort - Anne+Stefan - photo by OAK&FIR - Inspire Styling blogloveshoot in Amersfoort - Anne+Stefan - photo by OAK&FIR - Inspire Styling blogloveshoot in Amersfoort - Anne+Stefan - photo by OAK&FIR - Inspire Styling blogloveshoot in Amersfoort - Anne+Stefan - photo by OAK&FIR - Inspire Styling blogloveshoot in Amersfoort - Anne+Stefan - photo by OAK&FIR - Inspire Styling blog loveshoot in Amersfoort - Anne+Stefan - photo by OAK&FIR - Inspire Styling blog loveshoot in Amersfoort - Anne+Stefan - photo by OAK&FIR - Inspire Styling blogloveshoot in Amersfoort - Anne+Stefan - photo by OAK&FIR - Inspire Styling blogloveshoot in Amersfoort - Anne+Stefan - photo by OAK&FIR - Inspire Styling blogloveshoot in Amersfoort - Anne+Stefan - photo by OAK&FIR - Inspire Styling blogloveshoot in Amersfoort - Anne+Stefan - photo by OAK&FIR - Inspire Styling blog Don't we look cute and lovey-dovey? Doing a loveshoot is super awkward and weird, especially if you are used to work at the other side of the camera, like me. But it is so worth feeling silly! It is what makes it personal, so any photographer would love a little silly :) And you don't have to do a shoot in a public place, you can go to the forest with your love or another more off-beat place. Somewhere you both feel comfortable. But do it!

Remember, if you need advice on what to wear or picking a location.. just ask me and I will help you out! :)

Enjoy! ♥ Anne

wedding in the woods - stationery

bohemian wedding in the woods | photo by 88forever | illustration by Inspire Styling WeddingsBefore I share the last part of our wedding in the woods.. a small post about the stationery! I know I have shown it before, but it looks so much better when Danique is in control of the camera ;)

When I decided to illustrate the save the dates myself I didn't think the list of handdrawn pieces would end up like this: save the date, invitation, rsvp, route, enveloppe lining, personalized stamps and stickers, menu cards, leaves on the banner at the party, illustrations in our 'Amersfoort tour' booklet/giveaway and the cover of a (last minute) handmade guestbook. But I created every single thing and I am more than proud I did! I had to wipe dust off my watercolor paintbox, spend a crazy amount of hours drawing leaves and flowers, ignore a few doubts.. but I did it and I would do it again in a heartbeat!! Every piece looks so incredibly good! It set the tone for the rest of the wedding and inspired our guests to create some amazing cards and gifts for us.

Oh.. and I haven't put away my watercolors since! :) bohemian wedding in the woods | photo by 88forever | illustration by Inspire Styling Weddingsbohemian wedding in the woods | photo by 88forever | illustration by Inspire Styling Weddingsbohemian wedding in the woods | photo by 88forever | illustration by Inspire Styling Weddings Curious about our give away? It isn't in any of the pictures, but I can share the PDF file with you: Tour de Anne&Stefan - Amersfoort.

Our personal give away was a booklet with tips for visiting Amersfoort, Anne&Stefan style. We created a route based on our memories here and our favorite places to hang out. Expect a lot of tiny streets, green bits and good food. The texts are all Dutch, but there are plenty of photos (and an illustrated map) for the rest of you. Please feel free to read it, but please do not print or use it without my permission!

♥ Anne
