kinfolk style christmas giftwrap

We have decorated a tree, covered our house with twinkling lights and I am wearing my favorite wool sweater (even though it feels like Spring outside.. stupid global warming.. :( ). You would say we're all set and ready for the Holidays. But wait! There is something missing under our tree. The only thing we can find now is Nalu, trying to get her head around why there is a tree inside. We definitely need presents. Lots of pretty gift-wrapped presents.

I always support the makers, the small brands and local stores. We don't want a city centre full of flagship stores do we? So I buy my gifts from artists, the cute bookstore in town and of course at my friend Rena's shop: Hear Hear Amsterdam.

A few weeks ago I decorated her shop window for Christmas and on December 23th I will be there to wrap your Hear Hear presents! Kinfolk style, so lots of kraft paper, twine and eucalyptus. It's my Christmas gift to you! Be sure to stop by for the prettiest handmade ceramics, books, jewelry and accessoires, have it wrapped and put it under your tree. Easy does it!

You don't need a lot to create something beautiful for your loved one. Kraft paper, twine and a pretty twig. Maybe add a personal label or write a sweet message on the paper, but that's it! I used different types of dried eucalyptus for these presents, but a few sprigs of pine-tree, berries or even a dried hydrangea will do. And you can always mix it up in terms of twine. Maybe a different color for each family member?

Will I see you the 23th? I can't wait to send you home with lots of beautiful gifts (both inside and out)!

Hear Hear, Heisteeg 8, Amsterdam Opening times on Dec 23: 11:00 - 19:00

See you then!

lazy sunday mornings: happy weekend!

lazy sunday mornings - happy weekend | Hanke Arkenbout Photography | Anne/Inspire StylingFriday afternoon.. almost weekend! What are your plans for this weekend? In the Netherlands there is some sweet spring weather coming, are you going to the woods or the beach? Or having a lazy day inside? Feel free to share if you want!

I have been reflecting on my own work&website a lot lately and am thinking about a little restyle. My mind is already bursting with ideas! But those plans have to wait a while, because we are re-launching Oh Marie! Magazine next week. And that means.. deadlines, shopping for party decoration, some deadlines, filling up an entire website, taking a break to look at cute kitten videos, more deadlines.. Ah well, you know what they say: If you love what you do, you don't have to work another day in your life! :)

Have a lovely weekend dear readers!! ♥ Anne

photography workshop

You probably know how much I love taking pictures. Lots and lots of pictures, of forest walks, pretty flowers, berries, leaves and my friends&family. I think my photos look good, but I never really understood terms like ISO, shutter speed and aperture. So when I found out Hanke Arkenbout was hosting a photography workshop I signed up immediately, hoping she could explain all that technical stuff. (that, and she's a pretty cool person so good times in 'class' guaranteed!) photography workshop | Inspire Styling journal We started our inspiring and fun August day in Hankes cute home in Rotterdam (also the backdrop of our styled Lazy Sunday shoot!), she welcomed us with homemade snacks&tea and gave us a speed course into the basics of photography. Using normal words, so we could actually understand all the terms and tricks. Then it was time to put us to the test..

Hanke lives in a great neighboorhood so we walked around like a group of tourists taking pictures of pretty much everything. Our teacher was there to guide us and give us tips when we found ourselves overexposing every photo. Not all photos worked out quite the way I planned, but practice makes perfect and I am very happy with this bunch! :)photography workshop | Inspire Styling journalphotography workshop | Inspire Styling journalphotography workshop | Inspire Styling journalphotography workshop | Inspire Styling journalphotography workshop | Inspire Styling journalphotography workshop | Inspire Styling journal Before we headed outside Hanke adviced us to look at the things we're drawn too. You can learn a lot from the things you photograph most and find your own photography style that way. It could be buildings and architecture or the complete opposite.. roses and everything sweet and light. I think my favorite things are pretty obvious: berries, leaves, more berries.. and more leaves ;) photography workshop | Inspire Styling journalphotography workshop | Inspire Styling journalphotography workshop | Inspire Styling journal photography workshop | Inspire Styling journalphotography workshop | Inspire Styling journalphotography workshop | Inspire Styling journalphotography workshop | Inspire Styling journalphotography workshop | Inspire Styling journal (stole this pose from our love shoot with Danique ;) ) photography workshop | Inspire Styling journalphotography workshop | Inspire Styling journalphotography workshop | Inspire Styling journal In case you are wondering what we were doing under that tree.. it started raining! Oh how we love Dutch summertime! :)photography workshop | Inspire Styling journalphotography workshop | Inspire Styling journal photography workshop | Inspire Styling journal I learned more that afternoon than YouTube could have told me and had a great time with all those great girls.  Thank you Hanke for a great eye (and lens-)opening workshop! I have practiced a lot lately and will keep trying new things with my camera! You are never done learning right? :)

Hanke is hosting another photography workshop in October, make sure you sign in on time! (men are welcome too!)
