At the end of Winter, a random weekend in March, we packed our stuff and drove to a forest. After all, we don't have this firevan for nothing! This is the visual diary of our weekend in and around the van. Picture perfect camp life ♥
Sorry for the image heavy post! (longest post of my life probably ;)) There were no more 'darlings to kill'. Love them all, hope you do to!
Our firevan. His Dutch name is Tatu, after the sound the sirene makes. When we first bought the van (5 years ago), a lot of kids made this sounds when we drove by. It may not be the coolest name in the world. But we don't mind. If it fits, it sticks.
Tatu is a Ford Transit from 1975 with German roots. He has a tiny engine and 6 wheels. He doesn't like hills (or speed bumps for that matter), is always thirsty and can't be rushed. Which doesn't matter to us, we just say we're into slow living and sound very hipster ;)
Stefan spend a lot of hours fixing it up. He did everything himself, from mechanics to welding a thousand tiny holes. He came home covered in dust, rust and motor oil every weekend for a year. My hero. Our big dream is to roadtrip to the North Cape. But until Tatu is ready for fjords and mountains, we explore in our own country. And have the best time doing so!
Besides drinking coffee, hiking, eating and taking pictures we talked about van updates. We are planning a big makeover!
We sometimes use the van for big styling jobs, like weekend weddings. Therefore we have a quite minimal interior, so we can fit in as many boxes as possible. But during our last trips (like this one) we missed some indoor living space. Now we have 2 benches and a slatted base we lay on top for the mattresses. But once the bed is in, there is no way we can reach the stuff we keep under the benches. So yeah, not very practical. In the end, our roadtrips are worth more than a lot of car space. And to be able to drive out and escape life for a while.. that's worth a million.
So what we are planning now is a camper like interior. With a little kitchen unit, fold-out bed and cabinets for all the camp equipment. It's like Tatu has been in the kiddy pool so far and he can finally play with the big boys&girls! He and we will be so happy when he's a real campervan.
