".. with these keywords and ‘our’ story Anne’s eyes started sparkling and her creative brain started rolling! And that was the beginning of our amazing styling journey together" - Chaveli&Gema
It probably doesn't sound very original, but from the moment I met Chaveli&Gema.. it was good! Kick-ass good. For one, Chaveli is high up my list of most excited brides. But I fell for both their personalities. These handsome two radiate love and happiness, it's truly hard not to smile when they do. And when you can have pizza dates with clients and it feels like an evening with friends.. well, that's a bonus you don't get at a regular office job!
During the first interview I just knew I could create something beautiful for them. And the feeling was mutual, because sweet Chaveli&Gema gave me complete freedom&all their trust to do so! This is seriously the best thing you can give any creative professional. In my opinion, it's even more important than a big budget. And I will use every inch of freedom you give me. To come up with things like elaborate ceremony backdrops and personal details such as leather nametags & black candles. All the things that you will remember about your wedding day. You know, besides ALL the emotions! :)
Enough words for now, let's dive in this elegant greenhouse wedding and enjoy the photos by Lott's!
Jep, that's me. Working on the ceremony backdrop with some gorgeous Protea's, roses, dahlia's and lots & lots of eucalyptus. I always work very intuitive and have lots of images in my mind, which can be tricky to explain sometimes (sorry team!). But translating those mind-images into real life, that is one of my favorite parts about wedding design. So even if I have to work with my arms above my head for an hour, it's worth it. Because when I stepped down from that chair and looked at this backdrop, it was exactly what I had in mind! Just a quick clean up (okay, a very detailed clean up, because we picked up every single leaf that fell down) and all ready for the lovebirds!
Aah, these tables. still in love with what we did here!
The venue, De Kas in Amsterdam is a restaurant/greenhouse in a city park that serves the best (homegrown) food. And their main space.. oh my! A modern and bright greenhouse that is just stunning. Because this place is so airy and light, we could easily make bold choices such as black candles for this wedding. The super cool leather nametags and menu's were made by Mevrouw Knot. We worked together a few times now and the results are always a homerun!
We softened everything up with warm colors, flowy table runners and flower arrangements that stretched the table like a second runner. I made these 12 centerpieces with my temporary assistant/friend Laurie (a chalkboard master!) the week before the wedding. We made sure they were not too high, because you want to see your guests, not just the flowers! People over decor, always.
A personal favorite.. the moment the newlyweds thanked me&my team in their opening speech and the whole crowd applaused! I am still so happy I stayed for a few minutes to peak around the corner. Tears in my eyes while they looked at me, saying all those sweet words.
I always try to watch everyone enter the dining area and listen to all their "oooh's" and "aaaah's". Usually our work is done at that time (except for the clean up/breakdown), so I can truly breathe in the vibe of the day for a minute or 2. It completes the picture I worked so hard on for months. So if you see me hiding behind a wall on your wedding day, it's not because I'm a creepy stalker, I promise!
We ended the day by setting up a to die for sweet table. Shout out to the master of ceremony that followed my wedding design and went all out with gold candy! And another shout out to Mevrouw Knot for designing those customized Tony's chocolate bars!
My amazing team for this wedding day. Two regulars: Tonke&Noortje (on the right) and two stands in on the left: Arlette&Laurie. The perfect mix between creative talents and practical thinkers. One thing we have in common: we're all perfectionists. It was so easy for me to focus on the elaborate projects like the backdrop, because these supergirls used their strengths and did what they are good at. Wether that is cleaning tables, setting up a kids corner, sorting out the nametags, making me stop for lunch (thanks again!), creating a flower garland or just being an extra set of hands&eyes.. these babes knocked it out of the park!
I might be the brains behind the design, but without my team I couldn't move mountains like I do now!
And to finish this story: some sweet words from the bride&groom (full review here)
"..on the day itself Anne and her team NAILED IT! She and the team executed effortlessly - it truly was beyond our expectations. All our guests were so amazed by Anne’s work and couldn’t stop complimenting on how awesome the styling was. She will bring your wishes and vision into reality!"
