winter roadtrips

February 13, 2017 Anne van Midden
winter roadtrips / inspire styling

More Winter scenes in my journal today, because last weekend was all about snow and roadtrips. I made a venue visit in Belgium with Tonke on Friday. Seven hours in the car together and we didn't even bring 90's songs.. something definitely went wrong there. We did bring 2 bags full of snacks. Seriously, we could have hosted a small party with the amount of food we brought. Next time we'll do just that!

Anyway, the wedding at this venue will be sooo good, I can't wait for June to come! Uhm no, I can wait. With pleasure, because it started snowing again this weekend. Stefan and I strolled through the forest and I squeaked of joy at every corner. Oh Winter, please stay a while ♥

In exactly one month wedding season 2019 kicks off! I miss my flowers and can’t wait to get creative for this upcoming Australian-Dutch wedding. It will be so good! 🌾 And I get to work with @_lotts again, yay!

But for now: Happy weekend!! I don’t have to explain what I will be doing.. 💪🏻 What are your plans?

It may take a while before I get back to my regular styling/flower/random forest scenery posts, because life is all renovation all the time now.
As you might have seen in my stories we took on this HUGE project when we bought a vintage floor. We need to scrape down the sides of every single board because dirt and lacquer piled up over the last 60 years. To be honest, if I need it was this much work I probably wouldn’t have done it. But one day it will be worth it.
We are getting ready for day 7 of the scraping fest and we’re about halfway through the piles. My body hurts and my energy is low but like a wise woman once said: just keep swimming 💪🏻. PS: I got several messages about WHY we are doing this. I can imagine you all think we’re nuts to the bone. First of all: we probably are 😆 We suck at taking the easy road. Big time haha!
Second: we want to life as sustainable as possible and really had our hearts set on a wooden floor. Buying a second hand floor means no trees have to be chopped down for us and is a great way of recycling. And of course there is the aesthetic part of it.. this old sports floor will bring loads of character & warmth to our house and will look amazing when it’s done! Until then: we need all the good mojo there is to get the job done so don’t give up on us 😄💛 #our1968home

PS2: I’ve updated my highlights, for the reno lovers out there.. loads of house spam! 👊🏻
One of the first things we bought for the new house is this vintage countertop/sink. It is patiently waiting (as stone does) for a new life in my studio. Which means: No more buckets in the kitchen! And I’m sure my husband will be happy if he can turn up the heat in the living room without killing precious event flowers. Can’t wait to get this space up and running! #our1968home
On a different note: I’m selling loads of old props and tableware via stories! (sorry for spamming) Check my highlights, there’s even more coming but I will collect it all there. Everything must go! 👊🏻🎉
Personal moment // I’ve had a rough couple of weeks. Our fixer upper is 100% worth the effort and money but combining it with our daily life (as 2 freelancers) has been a challenge. A challenge we happily signed up for, don’t get me wrong!
But then the renovation on our current (rental) house started. And it is loud all day, every day. Working from home is no longer an option. It’s a invasion on our privacy and even our fancy new noise-cancelling headphones are no match for this construction site noise. And you may have spotted various side effects in my stories: random bricks & rubble falling down, leakage and vibrating windows. So. Much. Fun.
They have the worst possible timing, because we are moving in a month. Until then we have loads of DIY work in the weekends and renovation noise&mess during the week. So yeah.. life is stressful at the moment.
But I’m trying to take care of myself. These things have calmed me down lately: snowwalks, snuggling my baby niece, quiet workdays at my dads, french toast, tv nights with my love, kitty cuddles, making floral arrangements in our new house, music (always!) and the thought of living in our new home 🙌🏻 photo by dear @satellitejune during a relaxing walk in a snowy forest ❄️
Frostbite anthurium install in our fixer upper bathroom. Because why not? #happynewfloral 🦄
Meet my niece: Vera Johanna Cornelia (named after me & her fathers sister, we carry pretty much the same name) 💕

This perfect little girl opened a piece of my heart I didn’t even know existed. It just exploded with love as soon as my sister called me with the good news this Friday. I never was much of a baby person and still I’m not a born caregiver. But for you, little Vera.. I’d do anything. Please don’t take advantage of me when you’re older 😇💛 Our family is bursting with love & happiness, my stress level dropped dramatically since Friday and I’m spending all the money I need for new furniture on tiny clothes. Life is good.
PS: @emwieman 😭💕
A little weathered, but I still kinda like this wreath. I could swap the dried ferns on the right for something more alive but who am I kidding.. plenty of non-wreath things to do! Like decide on a couch, paint colors and floor finishings for the new house! There will be some more DIY stories this weekend.. sorrynotsorry for that in advance! 😇
Backstage at the shoot I styled for @ninapierson’s upcoming book 💫 I love the colors in this photo and the casual but festive table. Besides 4 crates of tableware&glasses I brought loads of satin, velvet and tropical flowers. A new style for me, but I handled it quite well! So happy I finally got to use this vintage rust colored velvet too 🧡
But I’m even happier about working with this team: photographer @ingridhofstra and chef&foodstylist @_elise_henry_ 👊🏻 #inspirestyling
We discovered the initials of the former owners of our house underneath the carpet in the living room. They lived here for 40 years and truly regretted they had to go. I hope we will live here with the same amount of love as they did! Soon we will be covering these carvings up with our new-old floor but we will know they are there. F&H are part of the history of our home and now, so are we! 🏠 #our1968home #35mm
